Congratulations to the Contenders!

Congratulations to our Spar for the Spurtle finalists, Including: Jim Schafer's "Nutty Coconut Oatmeal"; Merry Graham's "Black Bean Porridge Patties"; and, Rachel Kimbrow's "Gingerbread Oatmeal". They will be competing on August 26 at the Bob's Red Mill Whole Grain Store & Visitors Center to see if they have what it takes to represent Bob's Red Mill at the 18th annual Golden Spurtle World Porridge Making Championships in Scotland.

From a field of 44 deliciously creative and entertaining videos, we at Bob's Red Mill had the difficult job of choosing just three entrants to qualify as finalists for the Bob's Red Mill Spar for the Spurtle competition. We were pleasantly surprised to see the wide variety of ways many of you employed our Steel Cut Oats. Plus, we were greatly entertained by the showmanship (and in one case show-puppet-ship) used in the presentation of the recipes.

A variety of criteria was used to select the finalists, including site visitors' votes, use of Steel Cut Oats as a featured ingredient, ability to appeal to the Scottish judges' taste-palates and whether the recipes could be prepared in the competition's allotted 30-minute timeframe.
